In the final of the Commonwealth Bank Classic 2008 , 29-year-old 2nd-seeded Patty Schnyder from Baech, Switzerland, handily defeated 17-year-old unseeded Tamira Paszek from Dornbirn, Austria, 6-3, 6-0. It was Patty's 500th career match victory. Patty said: "I played some great tennis right from the start. I never lost my focus. We had some great rallies and I was hitting with precision and control, and although [Tamira] gave me a tough time in the beginning and came up with some great shots, I hung in there and knew I could win if I just kept playing at the level I was."
Lindsay Davenport was the defending champion, but chose not to participate that year.
Su-wei Hsieh and Shuai Peng won in the doubles final 6–7(4–7), 7–6(7–3), [10–7], against Marta Domachowska and Nadia Petrova.
